The spot was practically attached to Siena’s Duomo, and the building itself is historic. The self‑check‑in process tripped up both me and another guest that night: I received an email with two different room numbers, so I tried both keyboxes until it worked; the other guest was a man who spoke neither Italian nor English and had no idea how to connect or access his room. I helped him with a translator because the number he was calling only answered a secretary line, and he risked sleeping on the street. Automatic procedures are fine, but a property must always have someone ready to assist in emergencies.

It was clean, but when I booked it said there was a private bath, which turned out not to be the case. Five rooms, two bathrooms, and a noisy kitchen; downstairs there’s a bar where people drink and shout all night, making it impossible to sleep. The evening bar noise and the drunken shouts were the main negatives.

The towels were neatly arranged on the bed. The property didn’t look at all like the photos and the price was completely unjustified for the actual quality. Value for money was extremely poor. We decided to leave as soon as we saw the place.

If you want to stay in Siena, there’s probably no better spot—between Piazza del Campo and the Duomo—and it’s surprisingly quiet. The room and bathroom were very clean. The shared kitchen was tidy and fully equipped. A heads‑up: the apartment is on the top floor, no elevator, and you have to climb 95 stairs, which wasn’t a problem for me because I’m used to hiking and walking long distances. There isn’t a proper air‑conditioning system; the room only had a fan that worked well enough in September when temperatures were lower, but it wouldn’t have sufficed in July or August.
