Hotel Tusnad

“Hotel frumos, renovat (sau in curs de), pret cam mare avand in vedere SPA-ul care nu e SPA.”

I got renovated rooms, good breakfast and tasty dinner, and the location in Tusnad is fine. The rooms didn’t have AC – I hope they plan to add that during the renovation because even in the mountains it gets very hot in some rooms in summer. Also, the SPA isn’t really a SPA – it’s just a small pool with brown thermal water (or whatever kind of water that is), not suitable for kids, and the room’s smell is unbearable.

The location is okay. The Ciucași Lake is in a bad state. Breakfast and dinner were fine, and the staff were fine. The spa area is degraded and unmodernized. There’s no “clean” pool for children. The sound insulation is missing or weak.

We stayed in a suite that was excellent—clean bathroom, which is essential, a comfortable double bed, fresh night air, and a balcony that faced a closed‑off hotel area, which wasn’t a problem despite the main road and the hotel bar’s street‑level noise (our friends’ room faced the road and guests were noisy until 1 am). The downside was there was no air‑conditioning; the sofa for our child wasn’t fitted and one side was quite dirty, possibly with a urine stain, and there was no mattress protector. I had to add bedding from the wardrobe myself. The lift kept getting stuck, forcing us to go to another floor to open the door. We were the only young people there; we weren’t there for the bathroom but for hiking. At breakfast, the older guests moved like ants, taking everything at once, and refilling the food was slow and in tiny portions. Only plain bread with jam and butter was left, and there was only sparkling water, no juice. A few more fruits would have been nice instead of the over‑ripe apricots. Dinner offered two soups and two main dishes; dessert was missing on the first night, and on the second night we struggled to get six pieces of cake past the “ants” (there were six of us). The bar seating is right by the main entrance, and the traffic noise combined with the crowd creates a real tavern atmosphere.

The rooms are small, renovated (just the balcony needs a bit more), with a sauna, massage and free board games and rummy. There’s no AC and no insect screens on the balcony. Breakfast is pretty sparse; you only get water, not a juice glass. The pool area is old and unrepairable.

I liked the comfort, but the breakfast was unimaginative and a bit sparse.
