Located in the historic Old Town of Monschau, beneath the castle buildings, Hotel Alt Montjoie is a 3-star family-run hotel offering standard rooms with TV and private bathroom, and simpler rooms with shared bathroom access. The hotel serves hearty meals using local produce, and features a wood-panelled bar, outside terrace, and bike storage. It's an ideal base for exploring the Eifel Mountains and German-Belgian Nature Park.

The breakfast was tasty, but we were not entirely satisfied with the accommodation. The toilet was on the hallway and shared with the neighboring room; because it was right next to our door, we were woken every time someone used it at night. Moreover, the hotel was very noisy overall – we could clearly hear other guests coming back late or at night, so our sleep was often disturbed. It might be acceptable for a short stay, but for a restful, quiet holiday we would not recommend it because of the shared toilet and the noise.

The room came with two beds, which was very handy. The breakfast was very standard yet very filling. The hotel’s location was perfect, just a short walk from the main parking lot and a 5‑minute walk into town.

The food was especially good and the breakfast was sufficient, but the stairs were a problem; I doubt we would find a lift in any other place in Monchau.

The location, right in the historic city center, and the very friendly reception were great. There was no lounge or any other place to sit.
