Located in Yamanouchi, Club Wyndham Shirakabaso Shigakogen is a 2-minute walk from Maruike ski resort. It offers indoor and outdoor hot spring baths, free Wi-Fi, and a launderette. Japanese-style rooms feature tatami mat floors and futon bedding, while Western rooms have heating facilities and LCD TVs. A Japanese breakfast and dinner are served in the restaurant, and the hotel is a 15-minute drive from Snow Monkey Park.

All the staff were courteous, but I wish the bar stayed open a bit later or at least had a space for guests to relax.

The overall facilities were very clean and the staff were very helpful. Because I stayed in a corner room on the top floor, the Wi‑Fi was extremely weak and almost unusable; it would help if a router were placed in each room or a repeater installed on each floor. If a sauna is advertised, I would also want a cold bath and an outdoor‑air‑bath bed.

The staff’s service was very comfortable and seemed well trained. When I was shown the room I had booked, I saw a ventilation tower outside the window that blocked the beautiful birch view, which was disappointing. I asked the front desk for a room change, and they gladly accommodated me in a lovely room, making my stay pleasant. The breakfast was fun too, with plenty of tasty items and the option to fry my own waffles. However, I had reserved dinner at 6 pm, and when I arrived the good seats were already taken and there were plates with no food, which was a let‑down.

I think the value for money is good, but because there was no air conditioning, the room got hot when I closed the windows at night.
