The place was spotless, the environment calm, the food incredible, and the bed enormous and comfortable. The only downside was the cost—nearly £300 for two nights—and the extra parking fee, which I think is unfair; otherwise the stay was amazing.

After a six‑hour drive we checked in for a premium super king room, but the receptionist’s look instantly told us something was wrong. She and a colleague explained that a previous guest had a late 1 pm checkout, and maintenance had just discovered the room was flooded and unusable. They offered us a standard double instead, but when we asked to see the original room, they said they couldn’t get a key. The staff member explaining all this was laughing—probably nervous—and that felt unprofessional after a long drive when all we wanted was to check in and sleep. It seemed like the room might have been resold on the assumption we wouldn’t show up so late. We left and stayed half a mile away at Merrygreen Manor, which was excellent. I’d advise skipping this hotel and booking Merrygreen Manor instead.
