The garden was neglected, cats were on the table as we entered, and the room was not cleaned – there were spiders and hair in the shower.

The house has a charming character and a great location with a private parking lot; we had a bathroom in the hallway and a small staircase down, which was fine because we knew about it beforehand. The town is nice. However, the old style makes the place quite stinky, especially with the cats that bring an odor. The breakfast is simple and the table is tidy; if you prefer a more extensive spread, you might want to go elsewhere.

A pure marvel, but nothing more.

The house is a lovely old building full of period pieces and the interior is very attractive, with a spiral staircase from the entrance/drawing room to our room that was equally glamorous, complete with period furniture and a large en‑suite bathroom. Thoughtful touches included bath salts, a kettle and tea bags, plenty of information and a map of Troyes. Extra bedding was provided (though it wasn’t needed because it was warm). The location is very close to town – just cross the road and you’re in old Troyes, a charming French town showcasing Champagne wines and local produce. We travelled with our two Labradors and Jerome welcomed them (and us) warmly; he clearly loves dogs, even though there are cats on site. Breakfast was at a shared table with other guests and was interesting – fresh juice, baguette and jam, cheese, coffee. It’s a lovely place to explore the area or, as we were, a stopover on the way to Morzine. Thanks, Jerome. The only downside is that unloading can be a bit tricky at first glance because the house faces a main road and sits at a junction with a very narrow pavement. We managed, though, thanks to a large front garden for unloading bags and Jerome directing us to secure parking a few minutes away. Just look for the sign on the front garden fence next to the road to know you’re in the right place.

The room was good, the location close to the city center, and parking was available. The breakfast was tasty but simple.
