“Gutes Midtown-Hotel”
I was already staying there for the second time. The location is obviously sensationally central. It’s a historic building with charm. The bar and the restaurant downstairs are very appealing and stylish. I didn’t visit the club under the restaurant, but it was always busy, so it can’t be the worst club in town. The loud music is only noticeable in the lobby when the door is open; in the rooms you hear absolutely nothing. The rooms are large by New York standards and the wardrobe is at least okay for one person, which I’ve found even tighter in more expensive hotels. It’s nice that the rooms have wood and stone floors instead of carpet. The bathroom isn’t the newest, but everything works and it’s still very chic. As a guest you get a discount at the downstairs restaurant and free coffee in the morning at the bar. Fresh water is delivered to the room daily and there are water and ice dispensers on some floors. The reception staff were mostly the same as last year, which is a plus in my view. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, and the housekeeping ladies were always in good spirits and courteous. If the price for next year hadn’t risen by about €1,000, I would have booked it now for my next stay – but at over €4,000 for 8 nights my pain threshold is exceeded. The price is a sham for what you get, but that’s not the Life Hotel’s fault, it’s Manhattan. If you want to stay centrally, you have to spend a lot of money. Cheap rooms just don’t exist there. With that in mind, €3,000 for 8 nights without breakfast is acceptable.
