The scenery was nice, but there was never any cleanliness and the breakfast was never good.

Three nights in room 108, right at the top with a huge window overlooking the treetops and a very large private balcony. The daylight bathroom had an excellent shower. We gave the location a full score because we really liked staying out in pure nature. Other travelers might prefer the centre, but Udawalawe is really ugly there. For dinner, a 250m walk takes you to the Garlic Restaurant with sharp‑tasting cuisine, and there’s a kiosk with cookies, water, etc. The hotel staff were incredibly kind and very helpful. We almost always had the pool and loungers to ourselves. Cleanliness was fine, though some corners could have been scrubbed a bit more thoroughly. The hotel arranged a wonderful 7‑hour safari for us through a safari company, but they were responsible for the picnic or breakfast on the tour, which left us very disappointed. While other tourists in the nature park were served on folding chairs and tables with hot tea, pastries, and plenty more, we only received a few dry jam‑toasted slices and pre‑cut fruit. We had to buy water… and ended up eating a few bananas standing up.

The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The food provided for breakfast and dinner was not that good :(. It felt quite isolated and the variety of food and drinks on offer were very limited

Nice place, but the golden years are behind it. The photos don’t reflect reality – one night and I’m still scrubbing. Comfortable, but not extraordinary. A pity, because the place is charming, just a little forgotten. Bad breakfast, the pool leaves much to be desired, friendly staff, but they seem to be falling behind tourist needs. They organised a trip to Udawalawe Park for us and it was wonderful.
