There was a good selection for a continental breakfast, yet there was more than one coffee machine and toaster.

Free parking was a plus, but the mattress could have been better.

⭐ 1 Star – Beach Mount Hotel: £50 Security Deposit to Protect a Room That’s Already Falling Apart! I’ve stayed in some questionable hotels over the years, but the Beach Mount Hotel deserves a special mention. Not necessarily for its hospitality, but for its ability to turn a simple check-in into something resembling a mortgage application. After driving approximately 500 miles in one day, all I wanted was to check in, have a shower and get some well-earned rest. Unfortunately, the lady on reception had other ideas. I was informed that I couldn’t check in unless I paid a £50 refundable security deposit, which apparently could take up to 30 days to be returned. Thirty days?! I’m booking a hotel room, not applying for a loan from Barclays! I explained that I travel extensively for work and stay in hotels practically every other day. I’m hardly likely to start dismantling the furniture and selling it on eBay. Unfortunately, my card wouldn’t work in their machine, so rather than showing an ounce of flexibility or understanding, the receptionist insisted on another card. By this point, having driven halfway around the country, I would probably have handed over my birth certificate and a kidney just to get the room key. Eventually, I reluctantly used my personal bank card to satisfy the hotel’s apparently sacred £50 security requirement. And then came the best part… THE ROOM! You honestly couldn’t make it up. * 🚿 The shower was hanging off the wall. Presumably an optional feature for guests who fancy a bit of DIY plumbing. * 💡 Light bulbs were missing or not working. Perhaps the hotel is doing its bit for the environment by encouraging guests to sit in the dark. * 🏚️ General maintenance clearly wasn’t a priority. Although collecting £50 from guests certainly was! The absolute irony of demanding a £50 security deposit to protect a room that already appears to have lost a fight with a demolition contractor is beyond hilarious
