Beautiful view, very nice accommodation. A bit harder to get to. We stayed one night, unfortunately we hit the period when there were a huge number of flies in the place.
Behind a construction site it was well hidden, yet it turned out to be a pleasant stay with very friendly and helpful staff. One of them, Adi, offered to guide us on an early‑morning hike up Mount Batur. Worth recommending, because the construction won’t last forever.
The view near the lake was nice, but at 5:57 AM a loud water pump started running and kept going for 90 minutes. In any Western country you’d be expected to wear ear protection around such noise, yet we were told to sleep next to it, which was impossible. The staff said nothing and didn’t apologize, showing this is a regular issue. I’m not even mentioning the broken road, the remote location, or the “hot” pool that was barely warm.
The view was nice, but there was no hot water even though the outside temperature was 21 °C. The main door left a gap on the side, and garbage was burning in front of the dining area. The toilet wasn’t bolted to the ground and the shower area looked dirty from a nearby construction site. No one spoke enough English for a conversation about the facility; we had to rely on Google Translate. Getting to the hotel meant crossing private property in a very isolated spot. We checked in but didn’t stay the night because of these issues, and when we asked for a refund they refused.
The place was quiet and comfortable, the owner was friendly, and I’d definitely recommend it. The only downside was the entrance road, but the rest was good.
