I’ve visited this hotel three times in recent years. It’s a beautiful property in a very central spot, elegant, snug, comfy, pristine, and tastefully decorated. The breakfasts are fantastic, and the evening dining options are just as good, if not better. The bar area features a nice fireplace that’s perfect on chilly, rainy afternoons and evenings. It serves as an excellent base for all the Lake District sights and is within walking distance of everything in Ambleside and Rydal. The staff are outstanding and courteous, paying close attention to guests’ specific needs. The only suggestion is to add more casual bar menu items for the evening, as the current selection differs from the upscale main restaurant.

“Great stay with incredible food”

The room was very cozy and the location was ideal for great walks. It’s tucked away in a quiet corner of Ambleside yet just a few minutes’ walk from town. The food was absolutely fantastic, and the staff were helpful and friendly. The downside was that our room was at the back, so the view was over the staff car park, and we were over the kitchen, meaning we were disturbed by an extractor fan’s noise from about 7 p.m. We also had to turn the fridge off at night because it disrupted our sleep on the first night.
