“Heerlijk rustig plekje.”
What a beautiful spot on Rosa’s “erf” with her lovely family. Rosa speaks English well. Her breakfasts are fantastic but not cheap. It isn’t a luxury place, just a very basic location, but that’s part of its charm because that’s how they live! On the property you’ll see a pig, a horse, several friendly dogs, and plenty of chickens and ducks roaming around—very cozy! Occasionally the power went out, but Rosa couldn’t do anything about it. Sometimes we had little or no water, but that was always fixed super quickly.
“Danke für die liebe und warmherzige Gastfreundschaft! Wenn ich wieder nach ometepe komme, werde ich wieder dort buchen!”
Super sweet, beautiful accommodation! Directly on the lake with sunset views, a garden, mango trees, dogs, chickens, ducks… I felt very comfortable there. Huge rooms, plenty of space, and a very relaxed two days. The family who runs the place and lives on the property are so warm and welcome you with open arms. Breakfast and dinner are also available on request! I would come back anytime! 🫶🏽 Everything was perfect! I just thought it might be useful to know that a scooter would be handy, as it’s a bit off the beaten path.
“Acogedor.”
I made the right choice booking these cabins. The estate is beautiful with fruit trees everywhere, and there are farm animals like ducks, chickens, and pigs. The family made me feel like one of them—talkative and welcoming. They sell food, cook over wood fire, and everything I ate was delicious and fresh. I recommend the fish they catch themselves. They also offer sodas, fresh juices, and bottled water for sale. Knowing the owners are locals helped me dive deeper into their culture and understand how families live in the area. It’s not a tourist spot, which makes it more authentic. The rooms are simple but fully comfortable, with clean bedding and proper mosquito nets. The property’s patio overlooks a lake with the same view you get at Mangos, so the sunset from there is stunning and private. There are swings on the side that you can use publicly. They even help with renting motorcycles, which they’ll leave right at the property; I’d say renting one is essential to explore the surroundings. Because it’s right opposite the tourist area and far from everything, there are only two convenience stores and nothing else. That’s why a bike is also necessary to reach the ATM and other shops. Don’t drive at night unless you’re experienced, as the area isn’t well lit and part of the road is uneven. But it’s generally safe. The lake area is super walkable during the day and you’ll see many beautiful sights. Watching all the families wash clothes directly in the lake on stone structures was a whole experience. Thanks to the whole family for hosting me and treating me so nicely.
“A hospitable haven.”
Maria and her family are the sweetest and most hospitable people we’ve stayed with; they truly go above and beyond. The location is incredibly beautiful, a nature lover’s paradise. We chose to have breakfast from them most mornings, and it was delicious with generous portions. They also have the loveliest doggies who greeted us every morning and night. Thank you for such a wonderful stay. The only thing to note is that the water went off for long periods on a few occasions, which is not the owners’ fault and seems to be a common issue in rural Ometepe. We managed without it and it wasn’t a problem.
“Chill and delicious food”
Got my own spot with a toilet right in front of the beach and the homemade food was tasty and cheap—definitely try the fish. On top of that, free mangos straight from the tree. The place is a little quiet, but that’s perfect for chilling out, so I ended up staying longer than planned.
