Hatem gave a very warm welcome and served a great meal.

The peace was great, but they offered the hot spring as part of the facilities and charged you for it without warning.

The scenery in Egypt is breathtakingly green and fertile; we watched the sunset from the second‑floor terrace and felt awed by the quiet beauty, and the starry night sky was magnificent. The hot springs were wonderful and the extra $10 was worth it. Mohammed was very warm and welcoming, pouring us icy cold guava‑lemon juice on arrival—delicious. He cooked a fantastic chicken dinner with a fresh, flavorful salad, rice, orzo soup, garlic‑dressed zucchini, and bread. Dessert was a homemade sweet, a sort of doughnut. The property was one of the quietest I’ve stayed at. Breakfast was delightful: scrambled eggs, bread, jam, beans, cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, and an American‑style coffee with warmed milk that was extra special to start the day. The surprise was the extra charges: after a month in Egypt where hosts usually give bottled water for free, paying 20 Egyptian pounds for a small bottle felt steep and off‑kilter for us Westerners. Mohammed’s dinner was very good, but as pricey as restaurants in Luxor, which we didn’t expect. We also didn’t anticipate hard beds or scratchy sheets for the nightly rate, and wondered if they had box springs and omitted the mattress. I still recommend Bir Al‑Gabal; it’s definitely worth the stop.
