“Not worth £110.”
The dinner was a pleasant surprise: a huge fish dish presented nicely, and the waitress deserved a tip. The Guinness was tasty enough that I had a second pint. Overall, the place needs a bit of investment. The bar area smelled like malted biscuits when we entered, and a few windows could have been opened. When we were shown to our room, the landing casement window had cobwebs over the glass, but I didn’t stay there, so I moved on. The room we were offered was not the one I had booked and definitely not a “luxury double.” The manager offered to show me other available rooms and eventually found the one I had seen. Despite a broken shower, burnt carpet, and underwhelming presentation, it was better than the initial room we were expected to accept. I couldn’t get breakfast because I had a commitment at 0930hrs some distance away, but the kitchen didn’t open until 0900hrs. I even received a disapproving glare from a bar staff member when we went down for dinner that evening, perhaps because I dared to complain.
