“Quirky yet comfortable and well-located”
Obuse is a charming village, and I happened to be there during the chestnut and apple season, but it would still be delightful any time of year. The open gardens make walking around especially enjoyable. The hotel sits right in town’s center, and most attractions—including a lovely café next door—are less than a five‑minute walk. Check‑in is fully self‑service, but the hosts sent plenty of instructions beforehand and left warm welcome notes in the room. My room was spacious and well‑equipped. The building itself is unusual compared to typical Japanese hotels, so I initially struggled to see it as a hotel. The rooms line up with doors facing a small parking lot, more like a tiny American‑style motel. When I stayed, the hotel had no hot water; the hosts gave me an entry coupon and taxi fare to a town bath (onsen). I really enjoyed the baths because they felt more community‑oriented than touristy, but some guests might find this inconvenient.
