“Below average stay with below average customer service.”
The area around the hotel was lovely, with plenty of walks and the Denbies vineyard just a short stroll away, and the bedding was clean. However, the staff were rude, spoke down to me, and seemed unwilling to listen to my concerns, making everything feel like an excessive hassle. The hotel itself feels very dated; the rooms look old, the water only comes in extremes of hot or cold, and if a lot of water goes into the sink it backs up into the bath, leaving grime all over the bathroom. The quick bite I had was subpar. After spending the day outside, we returned to find we had been ‘locked out’ of the premises. We tried the code, but whoever had locked us out had also removed the other side of the lock, so re‑entry was impossible. Even knocking didn’t get any response, and when I called the listed number they asked if I had told anyone I was leaving, which I hadn’t because check‑in and check‑out are self‑service and no such note appears on the website. In 2026, why would I need to inform anyone that I’m leaving a property? My partner searched for another entrance and luckily found one that should have been locked but wasn’t. It’s a shame, as the place could be lovely if the customer service were at least average.
