Great location next to the exhibition center, a tram stop right at your door, easy check‑in, clean and practical. The only downside is the tram and car noise from the street, which I understand is unavoidable in any city center.

The spot was perfect for getting to my seminar, yet the room wasn’t ready – it was rushed in just two minutes, the window wouldn’t close, the blinds wouldn’t shut, and there were sewer smells in the bathroom sink. All in all, not great.

The location is great, with a direct tram just outside the hotel to the city centre. I stayed in a double‑bed room No. 36 on the 3rd floor that had a small integrated booth with toilet, basin and shower; when you shower the toilet and floor get wet, and the basin sits almost over the toilet, which isn’t very hygienic. The bed was horrible – the two mattresses were extremely soft and slid off the bed in both directions, waking me up, and the room faced a busy road so traffic noise was significant even though the hotel itself was quiet. Self‑check‑in and check‑out worked fine. There’s no elevator and the stairs are a bit steep, so bring that in mind if you have a big suitcase. I wouldn’t recommend this room for two people – there simply isn’t enough space. It feels like a cubicle meant only for sleeping and leaving. It’s fine for those who don’t mind the low quality, lack of space, plastic bathroom cubicle, and just need a place to sleep. The price is one of the lowest in Basel, which is an advantage. Communication with the hotel was fast and friendly and the room was clean.

The place is well‑located and offers good value; in Basel you can pick up a Basel card for transport right at the hotel without extra fees. There’s no staff on site, but a phone is at reception and a receptionist at Hotel Alexander answered immediately and was very helpful. A hairdryer is in the bathroom, but it didn’t work.
