I stayed in a clean room with a big balcony and the view from the reception balcony showed trees and a temple, though I wished the balcony looked out over the Ella mountains or tea plantations like other places. The staff, especially the owner who lives downstairs, were very helpful and friendly, and I chatted with him a lot. The price was the cheapest I found in Sri Lanka, and the building itself was well maintained. It’s only a 10‑minute drive to Ella main street and 20 minutes to the amazing Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery. Breakfast and dinner were not included, but they were decent; dinner service was very slow, so I’d recommend telling the staff 1–2 hours in advance—by person or WhatsApp—what you want to avoid any hassle. There are a few fruit shops within a five‑minute walk, but not many restaurants nearby, so you’ll need a car, taxi, or tuk‑tuk to get around. We had to ask for a room cleaning, otherwise it wouldn’t happen, and while the common areas could use a bit more tidying, my room stayed spotless. The hotel offered a baby cot and had two showers, one of which only had hot water after you switched it on, the other remained cold.
