Yufuin Ryokan Yufumomiji

The in room, private onsen was good. The temperature of the water was very warm. I quite liked it. The location is decent if you come with your car. The staff was friendly and nice. The price is a little high for the overall service quality. We stayed at a top notch Ryokan just right before this one, and it was a sudden service quality drop in our experience. Even though price was similar. Nobody greets you, the front desk was pretty much empty during our check in / check out times. It’s more like a hotel than a Japanese ryokan. The introduction to the room and the facilities were lacking and very rushed. The futon beds were really uncomfortable. There’s too much noise coming from other rooms, so it’s not a super relaxation type of place

I highly recommend the meal package! We ate breakfast and dinner in private booths, where the traditional dishes were presented beautifully. Over two days we enjoyed wagyu beef—this time as sukiyaki—and on the last day we had fugu fish prepared in three ways: in a pot, sashimi, and breaded and fried. The breakfasts were varied and excellent. I also suggest the included tours (about an hour in the morning and roughly 40 minutes in the evening); the evening tour gave us wonderful impressions. The onsen in the room is a bit small but just right for two people. There’s also a public onsen available to guests, which is much larger than the room ones. The staff were very helpful, and there was a snack bar at reception and the option to discuss a transfer to Yufuin at no extra cost (the train station is only a short walk of about 1500 m). We didn’t get to visit the museum next door, which seems like a very interesting but somewhat remote attraction.

The Korean staff were absent, but they were friendly and could speak English, which was fine. We stayed in Omichi, which was actually a restaurant building, and a cockroach came out of our room and kept us from sleeping all night.
