Thomas' Retreat Bukit Lawang

The place by the river was peaceful and the room was spacious and clean. A jungle tour with guide Dín was a real highlight 👌 I’m grateful and would love to return 😊 The only issue was that there was nowhere to hang or store items in the room, so after coming back from the jungle you’re wet and have no place to dry your belongings. Otherwise everything was perfect 😊

“I would come back here just to visit my friend Thomas!”

The staff were amazing and very welcoming, going the extra mile to arrange our pick‑up and drop‑off from Medan and a private Orangutan Trek led by Wren and Pandi. The area is being overtaken by international buyers, but Thomas, the owner, is a true local who built this business from scratch. I’d definitely recommend staying here to support the local community! Our stay was awesome and had everything you could need.

The room was large, clean, and the staff were very friendly, the air‑conditioning worked well, but the shower only provided cold water, which was tolerable in the heat.

“Great team, great activities, everything was just perfect”

Thomas and his team were incredibly welcoming, and we enjoyed a fantastic trekking tour with Ren and Arnold who made sure to keep us away from crowds and matched the hikes to our fitness levels; the room was spacious, the shower hot, and the bed very comfortable—though the orangutans weren’t as close as we’d hoped, which is normal with wild animals; the jungle picnic was full of fresh fruit, and both dinner and breakfast were excellent thanks to Dan’s cooking; the rafting adventure was a highlight, and the night snake tour was a must‑do; overall it was a wonderful experience that I’d highly recommend.

“Very clean, good food”

The bed was extremely comfortable and spotless, the food was beautiful, and there were no complaints.
