This old‑fashioned guest house offers plenty for guests—books, movies, and a large communal kitchen—that reminded me of the 70s, yet it made us feel a bit old.

After staying here twice, I love the atmosphere: a living room to chill in, musical instruments to play, a kitchen to use, and clean rooms, beds, and bathrooms—exactly what we need, so we’ll keep booking it for future trips to Bishop.

I stayed in a mixed dorm for two nights at JMT’s Resupply. Walking more than 20 minutes gets you to the big supermarket (ESTA bus stop), but the outdoor shop, laundry, eateries, liquor store, and post office are all nearby, and the intersection of the main road and the path to South Lake makes hitchhiking convenient—though during my stay roadworks altered traffic flow and added a bit of time. The single staff member running the place is friendly and welcoming, the building is cute, and both the courtyard and interior feel comfortable. The hiker’s box exists but is less usable than at other hostels and doesn’t seem to get much use (I wonder if anyone found the cliff bar, dried cheese, or whatever was left). Free bike rentals are appreciated, yet with just one staff person they’re all punctured.
