Owner Lance was fantastic, and the area around the hotel was nice. The breakfast was superb. However, the property felt outdated and worn, and our room ran out of hot water.

The scenery was gorgeous, but the breakfast clock was inflexible—9 AM only—so early birds or those wanting to kick off the day early were disappointed. At $375 per night I expected the freedom to eat whenever I wanted, yet the hot water stopped working for me and a few other guests on the last day.

The surroundings were pleasant, but the place desperately needs a major overhaul; it seems like it hasn't been properly cleaned in months. It was over 90 °F outside and the air conditioner failed. Staff were surly and unhelpful, and the room was cramped and far from worth the price. There were plenty of chances to improve the experience, yet they fell short on many levels. Even the summer pancakes at breakfast were lacking; we had to request something more seasonal. They should shut down, deep clean, and hand the property over to a professional management team.

I liked the friendly server at breakfast, Junko Moy. The room was too cold and I couldn't adjust the temperature. A handheld shower head would be nice, and a car charging station would have been appreciated.

The owner welcomed us and gave a tour of the hay loft, a beautiful space turned into a welcome area with a coffee bar, various glassware, teas, hot chocolate, and snacks. The hearty breakfast was served there, and the coffee was excellent. The room was very comfortable and featured a deck with outdoor furniture. The grounds were lovely, with a pond and a pool. I also appreciated the proximity to Longwood Gardens and Winterthur, and there were good restaurants a short drive away. The only downside was that finding the office (hay loft) was a bit tricky when we drove in; we parked in the wrong spot but found our way quickly. A few more small signs would solve that.
