The retreat’s native bush and birdlife are a real treat, and the clever design lets in plenty of natural light while giving you a great view of the outdoors. It’s a solid spot to kick back with family or friends, free from the usual tech buzz. The only downsides were the noisy fan on the fire and the blankets that could use a bit of airing to feel fresher.

Nestled in Deep Creek National Park, the location is quiet and serene—perfect for unwinding. Unfortunately, the cabin feels a bit dated, and the wood fireplace doesn’t heat up the space well. Adding a rug to the living room would make it feel warmer, and a general refresh of the interior would go a long way.

The place is well equipped and the design is gorgeous, making for a comfortable stay. However, finding it was a bit of a hassle because the last sign on the road isn’t obvious. A clearer sign on Tapanappa Road would help guests locate it more easily.

This Southern Ocean Retreat Cottage No. 2 is a perfect base for enjoying the Fleurieu Peninsula and Deep Creek National Park. We stayed for five nights and found everything we needed—clean, well-maintained rooms and comfy beds. The unexpected chill made the fireplace a welcome comfort, and the quick heating system, air conditioning, and heated blankets kept us warm. Communication with owners Jane and Barry was smooth and helpful.
