I discovered a place that probably tops my list of favorite spots in Vietnam—a magical spot right in the middle of a natural park overlooking a lake. The locals are amazing and treat you like family, the food is entirely local, healthy, and delicious, and I was invited to dine with villagers and join many other activities. I highly recommend it and will return—nothing negative to add.

The staff at Huē were incredibly kind, welcoming us and cooking exclusively for us throughout our stay. The building is typical, the setting very remote, and we wanted silence, which we got 😅… The view is stunning! The downside was the island’s isolation, preventing visits to nearby villages, and the lack of water in the shower, so we couldn’t use it.

The location is perfect and quiet, and the welcome was more than warm and accommodating. Nothing to complain about.

Ba Be Retreat sits wonderfully inside Ba Be National Park, right on Ba Be Lake. The setting feels like an islet or peninsula, and although the retreat isn’t road‑accessible and requires a boat, the owner is very helpful and arranges boats, making travel surprisingly easy—perhaps even more convenient than expected. The food is also very, very good. The only downside is that rooms share bathrooms, but that’s known beforehand.
