“We hadden hier drie fijne dagen dankzij het erg aardige personeel en de mooie kamer met uitzicht.”
Arenal is a nicely designed hotel with distinctive architecture; we were warmly welcomed and stayed in a lovely room with city and sunset views, the air‑conditioning worked well, the beds were perfect, housekeeping was good and the laundry service was fast, making it the first truly clean hotel we’d seen in Bolivia in a month, and the pool was clean and well‑maintained with a cool breakfast lounge that had a TV, just three blocks from the heart of Santa Cruz, a short walk away. What disappointed us was that, aside from breakfast, we had to go into town for any drink; there was no minibar, the coffee bar was closed and the pool bar wasn’t operating, and there was no vending machine for drinks, snacks or water in the lobby, so a simple extra coffee would have been nice. The pool wasn’t heated as promised, the sauna and toilet facilities were out of service, and the gym only had four machines in a cramped space, though that was manageable. At the very least, the hotel should provide a coffee bar for part of the day.
