“Sklamanie”
The once-thriving hotel has become a basic accommodation that no longer matches its price; reaching the sea is also more difficult than advertised. On the bright side, the AC worked and the station was close, so leaving was easy. If you’re considering this hotel, read lower‑rated reviews first, because the good ones are old and reality has changed. We booked through a site that looked friendly with a good vibe, but our experience was entirely different. It started over two weeks before arrival when we tried to cancel a night due to a flight shift— the owner avoided communication and later replied with a message unrelated to our request. You pay 50 % of the room in advance before knowing what room you’ll get, since the booking app shows six different room photos that can be confusing. We ended up paying for a day we didn’t use because we left a day early. Communicating with the owner was tough; he speaks only Italian, and when he couldn’t explain something, he seemed nervous and frustrated. The shower is in the bedroom, the head splashes everywhere, and we found hair in the soap. The bathroom doors jam, and the balcony doors are so old that they wobble when a car passes by the street— it feels like they might fall. The mattresses were heavily sagging, so the last two nights we barely slept. The room fridge cools items but also warms the space. The owner told us the AC should be set to 25–27 °C, which was insufficient during the heat. Keys must always be returned at reception on departure, and they state they’re not responsible for lost or stolen items. The night‑time quiet felt more like a formality than reality. We were shocked that our printed documents (ID/passport) were left unattended at the front desk without any check— when we arrived, no one was there, and it took a while to find someone in the dining area. The biggest surprise was that we expected breakfast per the Booking offer, but none was provided.
“Clean, welcoming stay close to beautiful beaches”
We enjoyed a very pleasant stay: the room was cleaned daily, towels were changed each day, which we appreciated; everything was immaculate, and every staff member was polite, kind, and accommodating throughout. When we arrived, they had left a bottle of water with two glasses in the room—a simple, refreshing touch after the heat. The owners were thoughtful, letting us borrow a beach umbrella daily. We were confused about breakfast; prior reviews suggested it was available, but it wasn’t offered, so check this beforehand. The location is great for beaches: La Scalea beach is about a 5‑minute walk, Riaci beach 10–15 minutes, and Tropea is a bit farther— about 30 minutes walking or 3 minutes by train, though trains to Tropea run only every 2–3 hours, so check the timetable; there’s no regular bus to Tropea. Overall, we had a very good experience, especially valuing the cleanliness, staff kindness, and proximity to beautiful beaches. The only inconvenience was one night with no hot/warm water, while all other days it worked normally.
The host was courteous, the linens were clean, and all conveniences were available.
“Luogo ideale per stare nel chill”
The staff were very attentive to our needs, but the facility felt dated.
