The staff and locals greeted us warmly, making us feel right at home immediately. The food, beer, and breakfast were all fantastic. The setting feels like you’re in the countryside, yet a short taxi ride gets you to Whitby’s centre.

The shepherds’ huts were quiet, clean, and well presented. The breakfast was unbelievably good—by far the best I’ve ever had. The staff were hardworking and rightly proud of their achievements. The only downside was the lack of bedside tables and lamps in the room.

The location was convenient for the town, and the breakfast server and cook did a solid job. I booked a “lodge” by mistake and didn’t read the details, so I had to cross a field to find the toilet and shower. The sheets were stained, the towel was just a hand towel, and the mattress was awful, so I hardly slept. Breakfast didn’t start until 9 am, which was inconvenient for work. I’ve requested an invoice for my stay seven times—three emails, two phone calls, and a message—but still haven’t received one.

The location offered lovely views and the room was pleasant with ample storage and a key for free access. On check‑in we were not informed that food stops at 5 pm on Sundays, and breakfast ran from 9 – 10 am, which was too late for working people. There was no guide to Wi‑Fi or the property, including safety information such as fire instructions, and no bath toiletries—so we had to bring our own. I think the accommodation isn’t the top priority; the food and pub are busy and tourist‑oriented (e.g., late breakfast). They’re missing a trick with local hotels above the price point, so I’d suggest a welcome/information pack for rooms, better Wi‑Fi details, clearer meal times and arrangements, and bath toiletries.
