Eric was incredibly friendly, even offering to pick us up from the airport, greeting us at the building’s entrance, and inviting us to share breakfast; he also handed us a little gift when we checked out. The downside was that the apartment wasn’t the private space we’d been led to expect – the hallway and bathroom were shared with his relatives, and they would pop in unannounced both morning and evening, which felt off‑limits.

The flat was spotless, flooded with natural light and had a super comfy bed; Eric and his family were so welcoming that it turned out to be our best stay in China, even treating us to a homemade Chinese breakfast on the last day. Honestly, everything was perfect, so I’d recommend it without hesitation.

All in all it was a great experience – the mattress was a bit firm, probably just a local thing, and the hosts were incredibly kind, handling a payment hiccup on arrival by letting us settle the next day without any fuss. They gave us dinner recommendations, Eric met us at the entrance of the complex, and Shirley handed us a little packet of purple cashews as a New Year’s gift when we headed to the airport.
