A short history
Dalhousie was established in 1854 by the British Empire as a sanatorium and summer retreat. Named after Earl of Dalhousie, then Governor-General of India, the town was carved out of land acquired from the Raja of Chamba. Its five hills—Kathlog, Potreyn, Tehra, Bakrota, and Balun—provided temperate climate zones for British military personnel stationed in the Punjab plains.
