Ensenada

Ensenada is a working port city anchored by a commercial fishing harbor and an ocean promenade. Most visitors split time between street food stalls near the docks and the vineyards of Valle de Guadalupe inland. The city center is compact and walkable, but exploring the surrounding coastline or wine country requires wheels. Expect fresh Pacific seafood, unpretentious cantinas, and marine fog that clears by midday.

Ensenada is the birthplace of the Baja fish taco, defined by batter-fried whitefish, shredded cabbage, and crema on corn tortillas. Seafood carts along Avenida Alvarado and the harbor serve cold raw shellfish, sea urchin, and pismo clams topped with chili sauces. The region also produces over 80% of Mexican wine and hosts a dense cluster of microbreweries.
