Nedumbassery was once a quiet agricultural area covered in paddy fields and coconut groves along the Periyar River basin. In 1999, the community built Cochin International Airport through a unique public-private partnership funded by non-resident Keralites. The airport transformed the village into Kerala's central aviation node while preserving ancient temple sites nearby.
