The hotel is old but the rooms are roomy; they just need updating. The building itself feels very old and not very functional.

The team, especially Vanessa at the bar, were very friendly and helpful. The facilities were good, though some of the fittings in the leisure suite were broken (showers) or insufficient (male lockers). The hotel’s location was very central. However, the hotel sits near very noisy places—particularly the cruise ship terminal—where generator noise kept us awake at night, and ship horns blared early in the morning. The nearby casino also plays loud music every Friday and Saturday night until past 3 am.

The staff were kind, the breakfast buffet was good, and the location lets you walk everywhere in Funchal. A small touch for the birthday was much appreciated. The pool was not heated, even the indoor spa (sauna/hammam) was only open at specific times and not during the day. Cleanliness was lacking around the bathroom tiles.
