“It isn't somewhere I would choose to stay again, at that price.”
The spot was inside the city, which was uncommon. I managed to check in after 22.00 following a long all‑day train trip from northern England to Lausanne. I did get a room even though the proprietor claimed there was no record of my prepaid booking. The room was unbearably hot, the fan was useless and there was no air conditioning. The bathroom was shared by four rooms (probably double), mostly clean but with a lot of other people’s hair on the floor. The balcony was shared, which made security a concern because the balcony doors were the only windows and it was too hot to sleep without them open. Someone in the next room was smoking weed and coughed nonstop for a couple of hours while I tried to sleep. There was no tap water except in the bathroom and no place to boil water; I asked for a kettle, it was promised but never arrived. The building, furniture, fixtures, towels and bedding were all a bit worn but still clean.
