“Meh - there's better value nearby”

The place was clean and the staff were friendly, but the value didn’t match the price. A little more money would have let you stay at Hótel Jokulsarlon, which offers hot tubs, glacier views, a nicer restaurant, and first‑class rooms. The restaurant food was “meh” and the hallway was noisy at night.

“Pretty but lacking...”

The cabin was pretty, minimalistic, and had a comfy bed. The view from both sides of the property was gorgeous, showing mountains and horses on one side and sheep and water on the other. Parking right outside the cabin was very convenient, and the bathroom was spacious and modern. For one night it wasn’t the worst, but I’m not sure I’d recommend it for a longer stay. The area seemed particularly expensive for rooms, and this one was not the best equipped. On a very blustery and rainy day, the first thing we wanted to do was hang up our sodden coats, but there were no hooks on the wall or any other surface to hang them. The only option was to use the three coat hangers on a rail under a leaky boiler that had a bucket under it. Hanging anything else was difficult, and there were no places to hang a hand towel or bath towel while showering. The kitchenette was lacking; although it may have a microwave, you only got two bowls to eat from, no plates, no scissors, no measuring jugs, or other utensils except a knife, fork, and spoon. So don’t plan anything more than porridge or cereal. They may provide a kettle, but no coffee and only four random flavored tea bags (no normal tea). Thankfully you can get that from the guesthouse upon check‑in. WiFi was supposed to be included, but the cabin is so far from the main guesthouse that the signal doesn’t reach it. This also proved not ideal for one of the radiators in the cabin, which didn’t seem to work without a WiFi connection. Thankfully the radiator near the bed provided some heat, which was bearable with the nice woollen blanket. Our night was affected by particularly strong winds. The wind didn’t mix well with the metal roof, which sounded like it was flapping for several hours, making it hard to sleep despite the comfy beds. Unfortunately the wind also drove rain in through the large windows, even though they were closed. We sacrificed a towel to the bottom of the window pane to stop it from spreading further and leaking onto our suitcases. This was reported upon checkout, so hopefully it will be fixed for the next guest!

“Lieber nicht mehr”

The location offers views of sheep, mountains, or sea. The place is clean and the staff are friendly, but it is very old. The bathroom is clean but very damp and smells that way. The rooms and breakfast are very expensive for what they are.

We dined well at the restaurant, paying in line with Icelandic prices. The distant ocean waves and wind rattling the bungalow were audible. We skipped breakfast because, in addition to the 21€ per person room price, it seemed excessive.

The location and the friendly staff were great, and there was nothing to complain about.
