I wish I didn’t have to write this because it’s hard to believe, but we were robbed in this hotel. We were out for dinner for about two hours during our one‑night stay, and 800 euros in cash plus all my wife’s jewelry were stolen from our suitcase. There was a safe in the room, but I didn’t use it and I’m to blame for that, yet our money and jewelry were so well hidden inside our bags that the idea of something going wrong in a hotel with nine rooms didn’t cross my mind. The folder with all our documents, passports, and credit cards was opened but left untouched, as were two sets of AirPods, an iPad, and a film camera. It seemed whoever did this knew they had enough time to look through things without rushing, because they didn’t leave a mess and put everything neatly back in the suitcase. We found out the next morning and went straight to the police without confronting the owner first. We filed a police report and then went back to the hotel to tell the owner that some things were stolen from us the previous evening. The owner, Pascale, kept insisting that it was absolutely impossible for something like this to happen inside the hotel, since she’s the only one with the keys to all the rooms. There are no cameras in the corridors, so it’s impossible to check if anyone went into our room. In hindsight, her behavior did feel a bit strange at times, as did some of her questions, but I don’t want to dwell on that. In any case, she was quite unfazed by the whole situation. It still makes no sense to me, but it happened and it happened there 100%. I hope the Police Department of Deauville/Trouville‑sur‑Mer will do what they must.
