Silks Place Taroko Hotel is nestled within Taroko National Park in Hualien County, offering uninterrupted views of surrounding greenery. The hotel features an indoor and outdoor pool, and two dining options: Mei Yuan Restaurant serving Chinese and Western dishes, and Wellesley Restaurant with an international buffet. Yoga, aerobics, sauna, and gym facilities are available, with shuttle service to Hualien Railway Station and Airport.

The rooftop pool, attentive staff, scenery, snacks and drinks in the afternoon are all positives. The only downside is that in the evening the restaurant offers only a buffet; the only alternative is ordering room service from a very limited menu.

The facilities – pool, cricket, yoga, gym, etc. – were appealing. The dinner was a bit pricey, and it was a bit disappointing that drinks were extra.

The room was very comfortable and spacious. The food was grandiose and plentiful. The rooftop pool was beautiful with a view of the park. The staff were very courteous and friendly.

The vistas were stunning and the hotel itself was pleasant; the rooms were decent and the swimming pool lovely. The hikes nearby and the temple were nice additions, and the buffet and breakfast were acceptable. However, the opening hours were oddly restrictive for many facilities. If you have a flexible schedule it might be fine, but for business travelers or those planning leisure activities it’s hard to fit everything in. The pool area had three slightly warmer tubs but no cold plunge, which feels like a glaring omission given the adjacent gym, yoga studio, and great pool.

We upgraded to a very special room at double the cost – £350 for the upgrade alone. Breakfast in the R lounge was good, and the staff were nice. The photos show the VIP lounge, not the buffet. The dinner at the Wellesley wasn’t great and a big Chinese coach party was in. It felt quite tacky. There’s no bar, and the R lounge has limited alcohol for only a couple of hours, which was part of the upgrade sell. The indoor pool didn’t open until 13.00, so no morning swim unless you wanted the outdoor one (chilly today). I really didn’t like the caged birds in the foyer.
