It was my first Japanese‑style room with shared bathrooms and a shared bathing area. Luckily I had been to an onsen before, so the two shower/bath areas were set up like private onsens with a hot tub that you could use after thoroughly cleaning it first (thank the gods they have door locks on it, haha). The room heater worked really well too! The futon bed on the floor and the single pillow were a bit rough on my back, but I have two ruptured disks and am used to a western bed setup.

The service was calm and appreciated. I thought the host might be Japanese because there were many foreigners and it felt safe. The bus to Hakuba arrived at 20:30, and I was worried I wouldn’t make the 20:00 check‑in, but I called and they let me in. The night was early, and by 21:00 I was already sleeping, so late arrivals should be careful. The hotel is on a hilltop, which is still nice, but it can be slippery in the snow, so it might be a bit dangerous. Snowboarders who bring their boards up the hill might find it a little tough, but it’s still reasonable. The bath was only available until 21:00.

It’s a steep hill covered in snow to reach the property, but it’s very close to the main part of Happo. The hot showers only turn on after 4 pm and also turn off after 9 am, I think.
