The hotel has old‑world charm, comfy beds and friendly staff. We were not thrilled that breakfast was served in the bar area while the restaurant was being renovated, but they kindly let us order breakfast items to be delivered to our room.

The Astor has an elegance that makes it exceptionally comfortable and a great place to stay. The staff are particularly kind and attentive, and the room I stayed in was of high quality. Some maintenance and upgrades were happening in one part of the building, but they had no impact on my stay other than one of the three restaurants being closed.

I liked the old charm. The rooms are claustrophobic for someone like me who is used to daylight; the room had only a small pane window and no daylight came in—definitely not for people like me.

The hotel’s British colonial style and the outdoor terrace are nice. The noise from the basement nightclub at night, the construction in a room below the reception that echoes into room 119, forced me to leave after one night and move to room 107, which was spacious and quiet but smelled of tobacco. The room was poorly insulated; I could hear the corridor and the breakfast area in a windowless room (the nightclub at night). The breakfast was not great: only a few fruits, some Indian dishes, toast, corn flakes, eggs, and that’s it.
