“Adequate”
The hotel was clearly old, but it worked well enough. The only downside was that towels were changed during the week of our stay.

The staff were great, the facilities were solid, and the location was convenient.

The owner/manager gave us a warm welcome and was kind and helpful whenever we ran into her. A slightly older lady who served us breakfast on days two and three was friendly and engaging, and the meals were cooked well and arrived promptly. The location was great, just a stone’s throw from the beach and the cliff walk. The room itself was small, leaving space for only one chair, and it wasn’t serviced after the first day. The owner apologized and supplied what we needed, and the next day she sent biscuits and other items into the room, so that was a form of service, but the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned and there were no fresh towels. (Unlike many hotels nowadays there is no signage indicating that guests may leave towels on the floor if they want them changed.) It would have been better if the manager, who seemed unhappy with her staff the day before, had checked on their work afterwards. We had seen this “non‑servicing” issue mentioned in earlier reviews. When we arrived for breakfast the first morning, a pot of tea was already on our table even though we hadn’t asked for it. We were then given toast that was half brown and half white without being asked which we preferred. Salt was missing from the salt cellar on our table; I tried two other salt jars and they were the same, so I opened the bottom to get some out. I let the young waitress know, and she replied, “Some of them are working” (??!!). Fresh pears, apples, and satsumas were available, but there were no stewed or dried fruits. The continental breakfast items such as cheese, cold meats, croissants, and rolls were absent—this isn’t a requirement, but as a hotel in 2026 it was a bit disappointing.

The staff were warm and friendly, and the hotel’s proximity to the old town and the beach was perfect.

The hotel was a typical seaside spot with a pool; overall it needed a bit of maintenance here and there, but the beds were very comfortable and the staff were very helpful. The property would benefit from some ongoing maintenance and updates.
