Brian, the owner, is super responsive and helpful. If you want an authentic local vibe away from the tourist crowds, stay in Lamu at Samaki House. The spot’s close to the port, beach, restaurants, museums, Old Town, and ATMs—all within walking distance. The room is spacious, the bathroom is immaculate, and I loved the sea‑view window there. The coffee is fantastic! A great place to soak up Lamu’s charm.
“Nice.”
Overall a lovely traditional Swahili house, decorated accordingly, in a prime spot with ocean views from some rooms and the rooftop terrace. Moses, the caretaker, was a gem—attending to every need and arranging restaurant, guide, and boat captain referrals. The house and furnishings need a bit of TLC, and then it would be superb!
“Great place to stay.”
The place sits just outside the bustling old town, offers a very good breakfast, a relaxed vibe, and a nicely renovated house with a rooftop terrace and plenty of common area space. Moses is very friendly and helpful. If you want a room with a private balcony, you’ll have to ask. The toilet is a bit old and hard to flush, and it isn’t fixed to the floor. The washbasin is loose on the stone vanity, and a shower curtain would be welcome. The furnishings feel somewhat random.
“Nel complesso, per 2 notti siamo stati bene.”
Breakfast was decent, the location central, and the house has nice antique furnishings in a local style. Unfortunately, the cleanliness and care of the décor were lacking; with more attention and restoration it could be perfect.
“Charming interior with Swahili furniture and Swahili architecture, very quiet and beautiful house”
I stayed right by the main sea front, not far from Lamu House Hotel, and the interiors were gorgeous while the staff were friendly.
