Set on Mount Etna’s slopes, the 16th‑century Etna Hotel in Giarre is surrounded by exotic plants and citrus groves, with a pool just 800 m from the Mediterranean Sea. Air‑conditioned rooms feature satellite TV, safe, minibar, en‑suite bathrooms, hairdryers and free toiletries. The restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine, and breakfast is served in a converted stable with authentic Sicilian ambience. Nearby attractions include Taormina (20 km) and Catania (30 km).

The hotel sits quietly on the outskirts of Giarre, and the garden and pool area are pleasantly calm. Once you leave the hotel, the peace ends; the SS114 passes just 30 m from the entrance and is always heavily trafficked. A walk from the hotel isn’t possible because sidewalks are missing and traffic is dangerous.

Upgrade des Zimmers (mit Balkon zum Ätna) war grandios. Essen im Restaurant war auch top

After pulling back the curtain in the morning you can already tell if flights are leaving from Catania; the view from the room and terrace of Etna is spectacular. There’s nothing to complain about at the accommodation itself, but the town of Giarre is largely unappealing, with a few well‑maintained corners and good pizzerias, yet the “cityscape” is disappointing. Panini are delicious nearby at Nonna Catari' l'arte del pane cunzatu e bottega gourmet—check it out online and in person. From there, a drive to the sea is also nice.

The rooms are stylish and tasteful, the pool is beautiful, and the view of Etna is great, close to Taormina and the Father‑in‑law. The place is excellent. Rooms on the street side are extremely noisy, but the staff are flexible, try to respond, and offer alternative rooms. The restaurant is of moderate quality.
