The place was beautiful, surrounded by trees, and the leisure facilities—petanque, ping‑pong, and a pool with lounge chairs—were of good quality, but the breakfast was expensive for what it offered; I expected homemade fare.

Nestled in a 160‑hectare Dordogne park, the 15th‑century Château de La Côte lies five minutes from Brantôme. Bright rooms feature period furnishings, private bathrooms, and some boast four‑poster beds with original fireplaces. Guests enjoy an outdoor pool, rose garden, games room, and gourmet French cuisine served in a wood‑panelled dining hall or garden terrace. Nearby activities include ballooning, cycling, horse riding, and prehistoric site tours.

The setting was peaceful, the breakfast quality was high, and the overall environment was calm.

A small lounge adjoins the room, the bedding is comfortable, and the bathroom is large; the staff were pleasant and the breakfast buffet was quite good, and the location is fantastic—an impressive castle in the countryside with a huge park. We didn’t use the pool, but it was accessible. However, we stayed in the annex on the upper floor, and the staircase is very narrow and steep, with no landing to rest or open the door, so you need to be a bit of a balance master.

A beautiful, quiet spot, though it was a bit hard to find.
