The room was clean and the owner’s wife was very nice. We booked a double room with AC, but were given a family‑size room; when we asked about controlling the AC, we were told it would cost US $10 per night. After a lot of back‑and‑forth, we finally received the room we booked, but could only use the AC from 1800 to 0600. The next day we discovered the owner had cancelled our booking, which really ruined the stay.

The location was good for the national park. The owners were very nice and the dinner was delicious. However, we had booked a basic double room, yet the kettle and air‑con remote were missing even though they were listed as amenities, so we had to pay an extra £4 a night for air‑con, but everything else was fine.

The hosts were amazing—very welcoming and friendly, making you feel at home while giving you plenty of space. They arranged a fantastic safari and we enjoyed a lovely walk around the lake behind the homestay. This is the best place I’ve ever stayed!

This simple property covers all the basics. Technically a homestay on a family property, it’s in a separate building on the premises, giving enough privacy. The room has a fan, air conditioning, shower, kettle, and a bed with a mosquito net. What mattered most was the short distance to the Wilpattu entrance and the convenience of arranging a safari directly from the hotel (the jeep rental price was quite reasonable). I also had a local‑style dinner at the owner’s home, adding a nice personal touch.

Burman and his family welcomed us like no one else had since our arrival in Sri Lanka, with exceptional kindness. They organized a tour of Wilpattu Park, served delicious meals (even bringing food to our lodging one night), and the coffee is great. The nature setting was very clean. In short, we can only recommend this host, who, despite the language barrier, exudes generosity and makes you feel at home with the family. We’ll definitely come back! Thank you for everything. The fireworks used to scare away elephants made a nearby night visit to the neighbor a joke (just kidding, it’s great to know elephants are right next to the lodging).
