The view of the lake was great, but the place was not equipped – they didn’t hand out towels or soap, and they added extra charges for parking, port entry and exit, and daily transfers. Breakfast was the same every day.

The location is lovely and the lake view is beautiful, which I loved, but there was a detail that I absolutely disliked. When I was picked up from the port, they were almost an hour late, and it was scorching hot; from then on everything went wrong. I felt constantly watched by the manager; when I stepped out to take photos, he kept looking at me from a distance and made me uncomfortable. The worst part was when he entered the room to ask what time we would return to the port while I was packing and paying in cash. He saw where I took the money from my wallet and I counted my cash again, having 1000 soles, before leaving the room to take photos outside. I kept feeling observed and decided to move to another spot so he couldn’t see me, but he kept standing a few meters away, staring straight at me. I left the room to get ready and, when I re-entered, I noticed my wallet was placed differently and 200 soles were missing. I called the manager and told him I was sure about the amount; he said he knew nothing (we were the only two on the island). I told him I wouldn’t leave until the money was found, because it seemed impossible for such things to happen in his cabin. I was very upset – I came to rest, to disconnect from the city’s mess and bad people, to reach a “quieter” place with “more honest” people, only to be robbed. It was the worst.

They taught me a lot about Uros Island, and the facilities were cold but clean, with plenty of blankets. I didn’t know how to use the stove, so I spent a cold night. The tour forced me to buy items, which left me feeling uneasy. Also, I didn’t get my tour change back, so it turned into a donation.

Breakfast is included, and the rooms have a heater and several blankets. The hosts organize pickups and other transfers. Dinner costs extra, which wasn’t mentioned beforehand, and the food doesn’t taste good. The two hosts speak very little English, there’s no Wi‑Fi or poor reception on site, so you can’t even use a translator. On the reed island there’s nothing to do, the equipment is very basic. We also booked a Uros and Taquile Island tour through the accommodation. The Taquile part was fine with a tour operator. He dropped us on a reed island and after a while the host picked us up. He took us to a Uros island where we were first explained about the islands, then ignored because we didn’t want to buy anything. Soon after some children sang and demanded money. They started crying because we supposedly gave them too little, and the children held us in the face. Luckily we left shortly after. Also, everything must be paid in cash, and you have to ask for water to get it. We also spent a while negotiating with our hosts about when we would be taken to the station because they didn’t understand us. It could have been a great experience, but all these situations left a bad taste in my mouth.

The beds are good. The shower is broken, the bathroom leaves a lot to be desired, it’s cold, cleanliness is mediocre, they don’t serve water for meals and you have to pay each time. It’s better to choose a slightly pricier place and be better served.
