Hippo Waterfront Lodge sits on the Crocodile River’s banks, 12 km from Nelspruit centre and 4 km from the N4. Rustic timber‑log chalets feature open‑plan decks, kitchens, dining areas and barbecue stations, all with garden and river views. Amenities include an outdoor pool, river‑front bar and restaurant. Guests enjoy hippo and bird watching, river walks, and easy access to Sudwala Caves and Kruger National Park.

The location is beautiful in nature, simple yet lovely, with a spacious covered terrace overlooking the river surrounded by trees; a trip to Chimp Eden (35min away) was also worthwhile. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any hippos.

The lodge sits on a gorgeous riverside location, and the owners and staff were wonderful, going out of their way to make sure I had a fantastic stay; the on‑site restaurant served a delicious dinner.

The cabin was cozy and well equipped, offering a nice view of the river, and the hosts were friendly, helpful, and even arranged transportation to the airport; however, the air‑conditioning and heating were unreliable.

It was simply stunning—breathtaking scenery and the chance to see hippos up close made it unforgettable.
