The hostel itself is lovely, with great common areas and dorms, and I liked the location, but my experience with the staff and room booking was disappointing. I had booked a six‑bed female‑only dorm, yet I was placed in a ten‑bed mixed dorm for my first night without any notice. The room was empty when I checked in, so I only realized the dorm was mixed after I was already in bed. When I mentioned it to staff the next morning, they said a group had needed the six‑bed dorm. I was then moved into the room I had actually booked for the remaining two nights, but only after I brought it up. For me, a female‑only dorm is a preference, not a necessity, so I wasn’t personally upset by being in a mixed dorm, but the way it was handled is concerning. If a guest books a female‑only room, they should be informed if that cannot be honored and given a choice. Instead, I was simply moved to a different room and discovered it myself. As a solo woman traveler, it’s reasonable to expect staff to understand why someone might choose a female‑only dorm. This could be upsetting or frightening for another solo female traveler, especially if safety or personal reasons motivated the booking. The hostel is good, but the handling of this situation let it down; communication about booking changes should be much better.
