It’s a nice quiet spot just off the road, with the chance to stroll around the castle grounds.

There isn’t much to like except the ample parking; when we arrived around 8 pm the room had no heating and the window was open, probably to escape a damp, musty smell. We were handed a plug‑in heater because the heating didn’t work. The carpet seemed unvacuumed for a while and the overall feel was dirty and damp, and we could hear guests in the room above. We had booked three nights but left after two.

The facilities for kids were great.

The soft play area was lovely and the pool was nice, but the wait for food in the restaurant was far too long—45–50 minutes for two main dishes and two kids’ meals, even during the kids’ holiday period.
