I stayed at the Kirpal Meditation and Ecological Center on the Big Island, Hawaii, and it was unforgettable. Clint and his family were incredibly kind and welcoming from the moment I arrived. My room was nice, comfortable, and peaceful. The whole place is surrounded by beautiful trees and fruit, creating a calm atmosphere. It was my first stay of this kind and I’ll never forget it. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking peace, nature, and genuine hospitality.

I’m grateful for a few days of total relaxation and sustainable off‑grid living at this slice of paradise. The location stood out for its inclusive, family‑friendly vibe and great value for private accommodation. I highly recommend the cabins with attached bathrooms and covered lanais. I personally enjoy falling asleep to coqui frogs instead of city traffic and don’t mind the open air with no AC, though I understand that may not suit everyone. If you want to live like a local, here are some highlights: sampling seasonal organic fruits outside the cabin, including ones I’d never seen; great area recommendations, including several farmers markets nearby; a coconut palm weaving lesson with on‑site materials; a private meditation hall, a small library, and plenty of yoga props for evening unwinding. While I was on vacation, I look forward to attending a formal retreat in the future because I love the flexibility offered. You can go all‑inclusive (with advanced notice) or choose your own adventure. Meals are wholesome and filling. The caretakers continuously improve the guest experience and help the center reach its full potential. They were incredibly kind, accommodating, and easy to communicate with. It was definitely worth going off the beaten path to get here; watching the starry sky through a forest without light pollution and being among the first at the beach park to see the sunrise are priceless. Some areas are under repair at the moment, so double check if you want a specific space to prepare your own meals.

The remote spot felt like a real escape, and staying in a rural Hawaiian setting was a real treat. The new owners are lovely and seem ready for a big renovation, so if you’re okay with that and crave serious solitude, this is the place. I felt like I’d gone back to a sleepaway camp, and the drive itself was a beautiful adventure—winding roads past farms, coastal views, and a stretch through a lava field. A short distance down the road, natural hot springs give the vibe of a beachside hot tub, a pleasant surprise that made my stay memorable. I’d love to come back after the renovation to see what changes the owners have made. Compared to other lodging options near Volcanoes National Park, this place offered good value, probably because it lacks the luxury those other spots tout. It’s about a 1 hour 15 minute drive to the park.

The new owners are lovely and a very nice family who even taught us how to weave. The previous owner and manager let the property fall a bit, but the current owners are working hard to bring it back to its potential.
