“Pleasant rural getaway, relaxed and interesting with friendly hostess and fellow campers.”
We found this place as a last‑minute rescue while driving from south Devon to Hertfordshire, and the hostess was very helpful, giving us a double bed, pillows, a duvet, and an extension lead for power. The yurt sat on a model farm surrounded by tents from other travelers who were better equipped; I had wanted a hotel or B&B but none were available. My wife, always prepared, brought a double sleeping bag, towel, tea, cutlery, and toilet paper, making the surprise camping spot a pleasant change. The site had ample field space, parking, two cooking centres, firepits with plenty of wood, hammocks, a toilet and shower, all beside the River Beane on Hertford’s outskirts. There was even an artificial beach next to the crystal‑clear, shallow, slow‑flowing water, with paddle boards and canoes for smaller people. The farm kept a reasonable variety of healthy animals—horses, donkeys, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, and at least one rabbit—adding to its rustic charm, and cabins with all expected facilities were available for those who didn’t want to rough it. We slept comfortably despite a rooster crowing at 03:16, and the place was an ideal escape from modern life. Thank you, M. The only downside was the sheep baaing and rooster crowing when trying to sleep; what else would you expect on a farm?
