I booked in January for a July stay, only to arrive and find the hotel permanently shut. A local told us it had closed long ago, yet the hotel never warned us, and it’s still listed as sold out on other sites. The phone number is out of service, so we’re now trying to get a refund.

The 4 poster bed,. Lack of staff, room not clean, cobwebs and dust everywhere, hairs in bath, room was freezing when we arrived and took 2 hours to warm up. We had to sit in bed to keep warm, the room stunk of mustyness. Downstairs in the communal area stunk of mens urinals. The kettle leaked out of the bottom so had to be careful when making a cup of tea. No bar or kitchen, so no food as advertised. basically a waste of money

The location is good for Derby and Alton Towers, and Sophie, who checked us in, was lovely. However, the listing promised a bar and restaurant, but the pub is closed and on the market, which we only discovered upon arrival. The room was cold, the shower area was moldy and dirty, and the bed was small. The TV remote batteries were dead, and the bedroom door didn’t seal properly. There were dead spiders on the carpet.

To be honest the location was great but that was the only positive. I was on a course nearby as were 6 others and for where we needed be it was a couple of miles. Apart from that it was very poor. The building was freezing, there is no restaurant nor coffee bar as advertised. No toiletries or hairdryer in the room again as advertised. Thank goodness I took my own. Carpets in my room were dirty the only good thing was the bed linen was very clean. There had been a party apparently on the previous Saturday (I checked in on Monday evening) the ladies toilets were disgusting no toilet paper a glass half full with drink and crap everywhere I assume from the Saturday pm party! That was 2 days prior and clearly no cleaning had been done. No pets are allowed yet a dog shut in a cupboard or room next to me barked until well gone 11pm one night. Pretty sure it was one of the staff’s dog. The lady behind the bar was inebriated when we returned from our evening meal at 9.30pm we had one drink but didn’t finish as the lights were switched off as she wanted to go to the pub down the road. I appreciate it is a budget stay and a single room is £60 a night but honestly it is not worth even that
